Official Press Releases of BICHEDAM

As society enters an era of aging, the senior industry is gaining increasing attention. With a growing number of active older adults, seniors are emerging as a key consumer group. In particular, more and more people are focusing on their health as they seek new value and purpose in the second chapter of their lives.
According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), South Korea’s senior industry market is expected to reach 168 trillion KRW by 2030, more than double the 72 trillion KRW recorded in 2020. Expanding the scope to include China, Japan, and the European Union (EU), the market size grows even larger.
Natural product-based pharmaceutical company BICHEDAM CEO Ho-bin Moon Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation is gaining attention for its development of treatments for degenerative diseases. CEO Ho-bin Moon expressed confidence that the company will offer a new alternative for those preparing for healthy aging in an increasingly aging society.
BICHEDAM CEO Ho-bin Moon Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation is focusing on the development of treatments for geriatric hypertension. Hypertension is a common chronic condition among the elderly and can lead to various complications, posing significant health risks. However, CEO Ho-bin Moon emphasized that it is important to distinguish between general hypertension and geriatric hypertension when approaching treatment.
Regarding this, he explained, “It is not uncommon for younger individuals to be diagnosed with hypertension, yet few are prescribed medication, since once medication is started, it often must be taken for life. In contrast, older adults are more likely to take medication because unmanaged blood pressure significantly increases the risk of complications. An important point to note is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure.”
He added, “While taking blood pressure medication helps control the systolic (highest) blood pressure, it also lowers the diastolic (lowest) blood pressure, which can be problematic. If the diastolic pressure is not properly managed, the risk of imbalance or falls increases. For older adults, fractures take longer to heal and, in the worst cases, can shorten life expectancy. Some countries even issue warnings that certain blood pressure medications may increase the risk of falls.”
In response, BICHEDAM CEO Ho-bin Moon Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation proposes natural product–based medicines as an alternative. By combining herbal ingredients derived from nature, the approach manages blood pressure while maintaining the diastolic (lowest) level.
CEO Moon said, “We recognized the need for medicines using natural products that do not burden the body. Just looking at my own parents, they take so many medications daily, which raises many concerns. The medicines developed by BICHEDAM CEO Ho-bin Moon Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation will not only be safe to take without worry but will also guarantee their efficacy.”
BICHEDAM CEO Ho-bin Moon Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation, recognized for its accumulated technological expertise, secured a 1 billion KRW investment from the Korea Technology Finance Corporation on the 28th of last month, completing its Pre-A funding round. Its pipeline, including hypertension treatments, is currently undergoing clinical trials.
◆ From Korean Medicine Doctor to Entrepreneur: A ‘Challenge’
CEO Moon Ho-bin’s original profession is a Korean medicine doctor. Born in Busan, he graduated from Kyung Hee University College of Korean Medicine and was running a clinic under the same name, BICHEDAM, in Seoul when he decided to start his company. His interest in new drug development grew while participating in government R&D projects.
He said, “I established the company while verifying the efficacy of the medicines prescribed at the Korean medicine clinic and developing products. Considering the R&D period, nearly 10 years have already passed. I wanted to launch natural-product-based pharmaceuticals and make them accessible to many people. In the early days, I continued the business by investing the clinic’s revenue into research and development.”
Having transitioned from a Korean medicine doctor to an entrepreneur, he established his base in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk. Recently, he also opened a corporate-affiliated research institute at Yeungnam University’s Institute of Manufacturing Technology.
Mr. Moon said, “Nowadays, when someone asks me where I’m from, I naturally answer ‘Gyeongsan.’ Our headquarters are here, and I spend most of my week in this area. The Daegu-Gyeongbuk region is advantageous for sourcing raw materials needed for product development and production, and collaboration with educational and research institutions is active, making it an ideal location to establish a solid foundation. I want to grow as a company rooted in the region and contribute to its development.”
In addition to new drug development, BICHEDAM CEO Ho-bin Moon Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation is also preparing to launch a functional health supplement in the second half of this year. The product will feature herbal ingredients aimed at alleviating nocturnal leg muscle cramps and improving blood circulation.
CEO Moon stated, “Our primary goal is to develop essential technologies for an aging society and mass-produce the related products. The benefits of safe medicines should be accessible to everyone. Having accumulated our expertise over many years, I hope this year will be one where we can deliver tangible results.”
